I’ve always found the mainstream rather dull. Stories of those whose lives resist the tidy versions imposed by family, society, or their own need for self-deception hold my interest. Faded glamour, reinvention, and the uncertain boundary between fact and fantasy often provide the spark.

Writing
My training as a classical musician taught me rhythm, timing, and the value of a well-placed pause. Mae West, “Little Edie” Beale, and Charles Addams showed me what can happen when wit, eccentricity, and a touch of the outré join the conversation. I’m drawn to the relationship between comedy and exposure: the revealing remark, the disastrous social occasion, the performance that succeeds a little too well.
Art is part of my characters’ working lives. They make it, abandon it, judge it, pay for it, and sometimes use it to speak for them when words are not enough.
